Sectigo® S/MIME Organization Validated is an E-Mail Certificate that encrypts your e-mail, adds a digital signature, and carries the verified name of your organization inside the E-Mail Certificate itself.
Before issuance, Sectigo® acts as the Certificate Authority (CA) and confirms two things : that the organization exists as a registered legal entity, and that the e-mail address being secured is controlled by that organization.
Because company records are checked, issuance takes longer than a mailbox check alone. In return, a recipient inspecting a signed message can see a verified organization name rather than an address on its own.

Organization Validation (OV) confirms that a real, registered organization stands behind the e-mail address. The Certificate Authority (CA) checks the legal existence of the organization, its registered address, and its right to use the address being secured.

The Value of a Verified Organization Name
At mailbox validation, the address alone is the identity. A recipient can confirm the message came from that address, but not who stands behind it.
Organization Validation records the verified company name, so a recipient inspecting the signature sees the organization as well as the address. That matters most where the recipient has no prior relationship with the sender.
Individual names are not included at this validation level, which makes it well suited to organizational and role based addresses such as accounts, billing, or support mailboxes.

Encryption and Digital Signatures
A digital signature proves a message came from the sender it claims to come from, and reveals whether the content was altered in transit. Encryption keeps the message readable only by the intended recipient.
The E-Mail Certificate uses a 2048-bit RSA key with SHA-256 hashing. Most e-mail clients exchange public keys automatically once they receive a signed message, which is what allows a correspondent to begin sending you encrypted mail.
Preparing for Validation
Validation moves faster when the details on the order match the official record exactly. Use the full registered company name, the registered address, and a telephone number that can be verified against a public listing.

E-Mail Certificate Validity and Reissues
Your order is a license for the term you select. Because industry rules cap an individual E-Mail Certificate at 825 days, a longer license is kept current by reissuing the E-Mail Certificate during the term rather than issuing one for the whole period.

The E-Mail Certificate is bound to a key pair that you generate. The Certificate Signing Request (CSR) carries your public key to the Certificate Authority (CA), while the Private Key remains with you and is never sent to Trustico®
