The PositiveSSL DV Single Site SSL Certificate is a popular, value-focused way to secure a single domain with Domain Validation (DV). Validation looks only at control of the domain, so there is no paperwork to submit and the SSL Certificate is ready within minutes.
It is a practical entry-level choice for personal sites, blogs, and small businesses that want trusted encryption at an accessible price. When you secure www.example.com, the root domain example.com is covered too at no additional cost.
This SSL Certificate performs server authentication and can secure a service on any port. Common uses include websites, webmail, e-mail servers running Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) and Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP), Virtual Private Network (VPN) servers, remote desktop, and network appliances or routers.
More broadly, it works with any other server, software, or device that accepts an SSL Certificate to secure a connection from one point to another. For information about Client Authentication 🔗 please read about global regulated changes prior to purchase.
The sections below set out how the PositiveSSL DV Single Site SSL Certificate is validated, what comes with it, and how to get it running.
Fast, Automated Validation
Domain Validation (DV) simply confirms that the domain is yours to control, with no company review and nothing to file. It runs automatically and is usually finished within minutes of ordering.
You can prove control by e-mail, through a Domain Name System (DNS) record, or with a file uploaded to your web server. Learn About Domain Validation 🔗
Encryption and Protocols
Connections are protected with a 2048-bit RSA key and 256-bit symmetric encryption, over the Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.2 and 1.3 protocols. Visitors see the padlock and browse your site over HTTPS.
The same encryption supports the requirements of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) and relies on the SHA-256 hashing algorithm. Compare Encryption Algorithms 🔗
USD $10,000 Warranty
The PositiveSSL DV SSL Certificate comes with a USD $10,000 Relying Party Warranty, a level well matched to personal sites and smaller businesses. It provides financial cover in the unlikely event that the Certificate Authority (CA) issues the SSL Certificate in error.
Reissues are free and unlimited, so you can refresh the SSL Certificate whenever you rotate keys or move hosting. Discover Warranty Details 🔗
Trustico® Site Seal
A complimentary Trustico® site seal is included and can be shown on your pages to give visitors added reassurance. It works nicely near sign-up forms, checkout steps, and contact details.
The seal drops in with a short piece of HTML. Explore the Trustico® Site Seal 🔗
Browser Compatibility
The SSL Certificate is trusted by around 99.9% of web browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. Mobile devices on iOS and Android trust it without any additional configuration.
This wide recognition means visitors reach your secure site without warnings. Understand Browser Compatibility 🔗
Root Domain Included Free
Securing www.example.com automatically brings in the root domain example.com at no cost, added as a secured Subject Alternative Name (SAN). Entering the www version is the recommended approach, since it keeps the root reliably covered.
Where a root domain is entered on its own, the www version is usually included free in the same way. Any free additional name has to pass the same validation as the primary domain, and it may be left off if that check cannot be completed.
If you need several separate names secured with certainty, such as the www and root together or a different combination, a Multi Domain product suits better. Every name is listed in full and issuance waits until all of them are validated. Explore Multi Domain Options 🔗
Installation
To set the SSL Certificate up, create a Certificate Signing Request (CSR), pass validation, then install the issued SSL Certificate alongside the intermediate chain files provided. Platform guides cover Apache, Nginx, Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS), and other common web servers and control panels.
If you would rather hand it over, the Premium Installation service can complete the setup for you. Access Installation Guides 🔗
Support and Resources
The Trustico® website carries a wide set of free guides, frequently asked questions, and online tools spanning ordering, validation, and installation, which answer most questions without needing to ask.

Refund Policy and Price Promise
An order is a license that unlocks when the Certificate Authority (CA) completes validation. Should validation not be completed first, the value is kept as Trustico® Prepaid Credit that you can put toward another SSL Certificate, domain, or product.
Once validated and issued, the license is live and the order can no longer be refunded. Requests that sit outside this pre-validation protection are considered at the discretion of Trustico® using the refund request form. Review the No Risk Refund Policy 🔗
A price match against advertised prices elsewhere applies both before and after you order, keeping your cost competitive. Learn About The Trustico® Price Promise 🔗
Your SSL Certificate License
What you buy is an SSL Certificate license for the period you pick, such as one or two years. Choosing a multiple year license holds the current price across the whole term, which is an easy saving for a value-focused option.
Since an individual SSL Certificate has a maximum validity set by industry rules, currently 200 days and subject to change, a longer license is maintained by reissuing the SSL Certificate through the term instead of relying on one SSL Certificate for the entire period.
Those reissues are free and unlimited, and each gives the most validity left on the term, so a reissue near the end lasts only until the term closes. Manage your reissues in the Trustico® Tracking System 🔗
A reissue is different from buying a new license. Reissuing swaps the SSL Certificate inside the license you already hold, whereas a new license is a fresh paid order, best placed roughly two weeks before the term ends so there is time to validate and install.
A notice goes out before the license period ends, but keeping track of the SSL Certificates on your own servers is up to you. You can check expiry dates on the server, rely on a monitoring service, or download calendar files for the license and SSL Certificate dates from the tracking system.
Suitable Uses
The PositiveSSL DV Single Site SSL Certificate is a natural fit for personal blogs, portfolios, and small business sites that need essential HTTPS protection without a large outlay. Freelancers, artists, local shops, and community groups can present a secure, professional site at an accessible price.
It also suits students, side projects, and early startups validating an idea, where reliable encryption matters but a verified organization identity does not. A site that must display a verified business identity should move up to a higher validation level.
Higher Validation Options
When a site processes payments, holds sensitive accounts, or handles higher-value transactions, a higher validation level adds a verified organization identity to the encryption. Compare Organization Validation 🔗
Extended Validation carries out the most detailed identity checks of the three. Compare Extended Validation 🔗
