The word "instant" describes issuance once validation is complete, not the validation itself, which takes time to confirm a real organization.

That product is offered today as the Sectigo® OV Single Site, a name that reflects what it is. If you hold an older InstantSSL order and want the same product, it is the direct equivalent.

The difference between the types is in the validation, not the speed of issuance once validation is done. A Domain Validation (DV) SSL Certificate is issued within minutes of a quick, automated check.

An Organization Validation (OV) SSL Certificate is also issued within minutes once validation is complete, though that validation generally takes 1 to 3 days. An Extended Validation (EV) SSL Certificate follows the same pattern, with the validation generally taking 3 to 7 days.

The Organization and Extended Validation Process

Organization Validation (OV) confirms that your organization is a real legal entity, verifies its address, and checks control of the domain, drawing on official registries and direct contact. Automated checks are applied wherever they can shorten the process, and certain steps need you to respond before validation is satisfied.

Once every requirement is in place and the Certificate Authority (CA) has processed it, the SSL Certificate is issued within minutes. The elapsed time therefore depends mostly on how quickly the required information and documents are provided.
